A reader writes a song

On December 5, at a songwriters' circle at The Ace of Clubs in New York, reader Barrett Zinn sang a song called No One Owns the Moon. Here are the lyrics:

No One Owns the Moon

Russia put their flag beneath the North Pole
With the globe warming it won't be that cold
They'll swim in Speedos where polar bear cubs used to play

The glaciers retreating, the skiing's no good
Now there's tornados in my neighborhood
The more the weather changes, we say gee, what a shame

Pacific islands will be swamped
Before climate change is stopped
But the lunar landscape's still as cold and dry as can be

No One Owns the Moon
No one owns the skies
No one owns the sunshine
Or the light that's in our eyes
No One Owns the Moon
But there will come a day
When it's up for auction on Ebay

Like the conquistadors who sailed wooden ships
Wherever our rocket lands we will claim
And we'll have powerful guns to scare invaders away

On the moon we'll live under glass domes
That keep the atmosphere in our homes
Mines in the craters will belabor immigrant slaves

Once more, we'll be colonists white men will be dominant
The enlightened rulers of the land

No One Owns the Moon
No one owns the skies
No one owns the sunshine
Or the light that's in our eyes
No One Owns the Moon
But there will come a day
When it's bought and sold at auction
When it's sold at auction on Ebay

Mars is the next planet in the chase
to find a new home for the human race
unless we face our problems at home
we're doomed to roam

No One Owns the Moon
